HepB Messages through Spokenword Art

May 19, 2007

The Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association’s (APAMSA), national project “APAMSA Fights to Break the Hepatitis B Cycle!”  is dedicated to educating, screening, and immunizing the Asian Pacific American community against Hepatitis B, a devastating disease which disproportionately affects Asian Americans.  As part of this national campaign to eliminate Hepatitis B, APAMSA and HepB.tv are pleased to announce the release of the first ever Hepatitis B Spokenword performance piece

Kathy Lee, National APAMSA President recruited Washington University medical students and spoken word artists, Jason Hill and Leon Scott, to create the first ever spokenword performance piece about Hepatitis B.  Spokenword is an innovative performing art which intertwines elements of rap and poetry to convey the artists’ message.

APAMSA and HepB.tv are pleased to announce the media release of this piece, which was premiered at APAMSA’s 2006 HepB meeting in Boston.  The goal of this collaborative project is to use innovative methods to educate the public about the Hepatitis B epidemic in the Asian American community and to empower the community to join the fight to break the hepatitis B cycle.  For more information please see www.apamsa.org and www.Hepb.tv.
