Summary of Trends

  • There has been a noticeable increase in the number of APIA medical school applicants with every application cycle in recent years.
  • Currently, among APIA medical student applicants, more women apply than men.
  • Although the overall number of APIA acceptances/matriculations occur every year, there may not be a significant correlation between the number of APIA medical school applicants and the number of acceptances/matriculants.
  • The percent composition of APIA students in medical school classes has risen at rates much greater than Hispanic and Black minority groups, and thus APIA students are currently the largest minority group in medical school classes.
  • The increasing application and matriculation rates of APIA medical students has led to an increasing number of APIA physicians in the U.S.
  • As a result, APIA physicians are the largest minority group among licensed physicians in the U.S.
