Finding Voice: Medicine, Advocacy, and the Power to Speak
Many of us have grown up balancing different expectations– respecting authority, putting our heads down, and letting our work speak for itself. While these values can be strengths, they can also make it difficult to speak up in spaces where our voices matter. As AAPI medical students, we are often navigating questions of identity, representation, and belonging while training in systems that do not always reflect the communities we come from.
This year’s theme, Finding Voice, is about exploring what it means to speak up for ourselves, our patients, and our communities. Whether it is advocating for a patient in the hospital, addressing health disparities, or stepping into leadership roles, our voices matter. As future physicians, we have a unique opportunity to use our platforms to create change both inside and outside the clinic.
We do not have all the answers, but we believe our stories, perspectives, and voices deserve to be heard. We hope you will join us as we learn from one another, challenge ourselves, and explore what it means to use our voices in medicine.
