We are very excited to announce that the 2026 APAMSA South Regional Conference will be held at Rice University! Hosted by APAMSA South Region, all APAMSA members, pre-medical members, non-members, and interested students/faculty are welcome to attend this one-day event featuring a variety of AANHPI speakers, panels, workshops, networking opportunities, research presentations, and more!

Waves of Change
In the wake of sweeping changes across the many domains of healthcare, it is more important than ever that we come together to help both ourselves and our communities adapt to this everchanging world. The AANHPI community draws from rich history and diverse perspectives to shape and strengthen the field of medicine. To harness this power and energy to create Waves of Change, we are excited to announce the inaugural, in-person APAMSA South Regional Conference hosted at Rice University – open to both members and non-members of APAMSA.
Attendees can look forward to an exciting day filled with AANHPI speakers, immersive panels, interactive workshops, valuable networking opportunities, cutting-edge research, and more as we come together to form great Waves of Change!

Keynote Speaker

Theresa Q. Tran Carapucci, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.E.P.DirectorHouston Health Department
Director of the Houston Health Department Theresa Q. Tran Carapucci, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.E.P., is a board-certified emergency physician and health policy leader with over 10 years of clinical experience. Dr. Tran previously served as Associate Vice President for Clinical Population Health and Advocacy at UTHealth Houston, Assistant Dean at the UTHealth School of Public Health and Director of Strategic Initiatives for Harris Health’s award-winning Multi-Visit Patient Program.
Her leadership has influenced state and federal legislation, educational reform and innovative public health initiatives. She received a B.A. in Business Leadership from the University of Dallas, an M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, an M.B.A. from Rice University and completed her emergency medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic.
Recognized as one of the “Top 25 Under 45 Influencers in Emergency Medicine” by the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association, Dr. Tran continues to advance community health through both her professional and volunteer work. Within Mayor John Whitmire’s administration, Dr. Tran leads the coordination of medical, mental health, and wraparound services for the City of Houston’s plan to end homelessness.

Locating Building Entrance:

Coming from IAH Airport:
- (Recommended) Uber/Lyft/taxi takes approximately 35 min.
- Public transportation requires use of buses, trains, and short-distance walking. We recommend taking the 500 bus downtown, exiting at Milam St @ Dallas St, walking to Main Street Square Station SB, and taking the red line to Hermann Park/Rice U. This would cost about ~$5. Total commute time is approximately 1.5 hours.
Coming from HOU Airport:
- (Recommended) Uber/Lyft/taxi takes approximately 25 min.
- Public transportation requires use of buses, trains, and short-distance walking. We recommend taking the 500 bus to St Joseph Pkwy @ Main St., walking to the Downtown Transit Center Station, and taking the rail to Hermann Park/Rice U. This would cost ~$5. Total commute time is approximately 1 hour.
Coming by Car (HIGHLY recommended if possible):
- Description of highway exit, traffic, etc.
- Total commute time will vary widely based on accommodations. From the recommended hotel, the commute is approximately X minutes. Please allow time for Houston traffic! 🙂

APAMSA South Region invites you to submit an abstract for the South Regional Conference on September 26th, 2026. There is no cost for submitting an abstract.
