Romi Jin Sheng, Podcast Committee Member

Romi Sheng is a first-year medical student at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, New York. Raised by her immigrant mother in New York City, she has witnessed firsthand the barriers that members of the AANHPI community face. She has been committed to serving marginalized and vulnerable populations in all of her endeavors: designing affordable housing complexes as an architecture student at Carnegie Mellon University, helping undocumented patients obtain affordable surgical care at the University of Pennsylvania’s Pre-Health Post-Bac Program, and caring for children ages 0-3 with developmental delays, disabilities, and medical conditions during her gap years. She also has a strong interest in global health and is planning on serving communities in eastern Jamaica this June, where individuals have little or no access to healthcare.

Romi is curious about the intersection of art and medicine and enjoys working with her hands, so she hopes to pursue a career in surgery (currently fascinated by Cardiothoracic Surgery) while continuing to fulfill her lifelong commitment to the underserved. Outside of academics, she loves to travel, shoot some hoops, and root for the Warriors!!!
